Just a heads up that we have an exciting update to the Viigo 3.0 beta (aka Project Tango) coming for BlackBerry next week.

The new release (which we’re dubbing BETA 3) has some exciting new services (Flight Search and Flight Status, Kijiji and Currency Exchange Rates) and additional sports coverage such as NCAA football. We have also added the ability to remove items you don’t want from your Viigo home screen, and perhaps most importantly, made a number of improvements to our communications infrastructure, memory utilization and overall performance.
We expect that BETA 3 of the Windows Mobile version of Project Tango will follow about a week or so later.
We will let you know when BETA 3 is ready to download for each platform.

We will be upgrading our infrastructure this evening, starting at about 7:00pm EST, in order to increase the performance of our servers, and to provide a solid foundation for our continued growth.
Please note that between 7:00pm and 8:00pm EST, there may be occasional interruptions in feed delivery.
As a result of this upgrade, it will be important that users on older versions of Viigo (i.e. prior to 2.2.82) download and install a new client. To find out what version of Viigo you are running, please select Options->About.
Users running these earlier versions of Viigo will have already received a recommended upgrade notification a few weeks, ago. Those of you who haven’t already upgraded, or for some reason didn’t receive the message, will be asked to upgrade this evening. This is a mandatory upgrade, as these earlier clients will no longer be able to access their feeds.
If you are in the group that needs to upgrade, and you wish to upgrade now, you can do so easily by selecting Options->Application from within Viigo, where you should see a button allowing you to perform a one-click upgrade.
Note that this upgrade doesn’t apply to users on versions greater than or equal to 2.2.81, or for users on the Tango platform (3.0.X).
Many thanks,

We have had reports of intermittent service interruptions today. Our servers are up and running normally, and the issue appears to be related to the RIM BIS upgrades that happened last night, as BlackBerry web access has been intermittent as well.
Viigo clients should recover gracefully as service resumes, and articles will start to appear again automatically at your next refresh window, but in the event that they don’t, please close Viigo (menu->close) and restart.

First of all a very belated thank you to all of the loyal Viigo supporters who voted for us in BlackBerry Cool’s - Best of WES People’s Choice Award. Thanks to you, I am thrilled to say that we won the consumer category!
The award caps off a great month for the company … with a Cracky from CrackBerry.com, a RIM Wireless Leadership Award thanks to our friends at BAT, and most recently, notice that we’re one of three finalists in the Canadian New Media Awards - Most Promising New Company of the Year category. We won’t know the winner of the latter, until November, but we’re working hard to earn the right to win that one too.
We’ve also been hard at work on the beta for Project Tango, which we released yesterday. Project Tango represents the Next Generation of Viigo … and brings an exciting set of new capabilities to your smartphone. More on this in the next post.
All the best,

Viigo’s in the running for BlackBerry Cool’s Best of WES People’s Choice Award!
Unfortunately, due to a technical issue, Viigo’s name never appeared on the Best Of WES voting page. However, the great guys at BlackBerry Cool have just fixed the problem, and we’re now on the page and in the running … though with only a day or so to go in the voting!
If you downloaded and enjoyed Viigo’s WES Conference Guide and our preview of Project Tango, and would like to vote for us, please head over to www.BestOfWes.com.
Many thanks,
The Team at Viigo.
